Kaleidoscopic Inner Worlds reference portraits of my Egyptian heritage reimagined into profile portals of self awareness highlighting the beauty we have inside us. These abstract portraits envision conversations we have with ourselves and each other to deepen our understanding. When we see ourselves represented we can feel more connected, included and empowered to bring our varied perspectives to find answers to our shared and layered challenges to create our future together in community.

Barriers to our progress often include too much focus on our outer “productive” lives and loss of touch with our inner "reflective" lives, our whole selves. This imbalance causes pain in our bodies, minds, spirits, and relationships causing blocks to our healing and progress. Inner Worlds beckon us to give more attention inward to see what is yearning for our light. Each face represents a particular human capability, each a key to our transformations. Inner becomes outer.

Connecting to my diverse community of participants turned models I photograph them to get my source material for the collage process. With the images of hair, accessories, and textiles I compose within a silhouetted profile. I then photograph and print the composition onto a raw wood panel to incorporate the wood grain in the final artwork. Weaving analog and digital techniques reflects our need for openness and inclusion of multiple approaches to finding answers to our shared and layered challenges and helps us create new ways forward toward our individual and communal transformations.
